Tony’s paintings represent the Kamilaroi Lands, Sacred Sites, the Journey Tracks and Campsites of the Kamilaroi people within the boundaries of Kamilaroi Country.

 

For thousands of years the Kamilaroi Tribe in North Western NSW lived as hunter gatherers and performed various ceremonies in the vast areas of the Kamilaroi Lands that stretches from the Upper Hunter Valley west to the Warrumbungle Mountains and North into South West Queensland. At many of these Ceremonial Sites trunks of trees were carved, comprising of symbolic motifs, intricate swirls, circles and zigzags. These carvings were a warning that these sites were spiritually significant and sacred.
